We sometimes forget to take care of our backyards and gardens during winter. Though our weather is not as sunny as summer, we should not stop making the most of our gardens the same amount of.
Our native Australian plants are ideal for conveying some shades of colour to our garden beds over the winter months. Here are some of the more vibrant Australian winter plants:
- Correas – It has a beautiful bell-shaped flower and come in a range of colours from pint to red, vermillion, and creamy green.
- Banksias and hakeas –It has a subtle flower colouring, yet their emotional structures would positively compliment with contemporary architecture and modern style gardens.
- Grevilleas – Most grevilleas flower through winter. They are adaptable plants which range from groundcovers and little bushes directly through to medium sized bushes and trees.
When planting, a compost and mulch is used to prepare the soil. Clay soil needs to be loosened. Gypsum may be needed to split off the soil and help your plants to bed in. Native plants will benefit from fertilizers but it should be low in phosphorus.
